Joseph Parker faces Mexican-American Alexander Flores in his first fight since two consecutive losses in the UK.
The Kiwi heavyweight hopes to chart his way back to the top of the division in a must-win bout, but faces a tricky opponent in Flores (17-1-1) who comes into the fight with an 80 per cent knockout rate.
Undefeated Kiwi heavyweight Junior Fa (15-0) also features on the card against Argentinian southpaw Rogelio Omar Rossi, while Warriors great Manu Vatuvei steps into the ring to face Brown Buttabean.
Parker weighed in a near career-best shape and will have a clear physical advantage over Flores. The pre-fight pose was relatively calm compared to the dramatic face-off between Parker and Dillian Whyte in July, where the pair touched foreheads and noses in a tense weigh-in in London.
However, there was still plenty of jabbing back and forth on the mics, with Flores saying he was going to stop Parker while complimenting New Zealand’s beverages.
“I’m stopping Parker. This is not going to go 12 rounds. I love New Zealand, I love your guys’ coffee. I have coffee here twice or three times a day,” Flores said.
To which, Parker replied: “Alexander looks in great shape. He’s confident and he’s here to win, but unfortunately I don’t think that’s going to happen. He says he’s going to knock me out, I say I’m going to knock him out. We’ll see who’s going to do the talking in the ring. For me, after I knock him out I’m going to buy him a coffee.”
By Mike Smith: WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez (38-0, 25 KOs) will be defending his title this Friday night in a rematch against #1 WBO mandatory Jesse Hart (25-1, 21 KOs) in a rematch on December 14 on ESPN+ at the American Bank Center, Corpus Christi, Texas. The undercard starts at 6:30 p.m. ET. This is rematch between these two Top Rank fighters of their exciting fight from last year in September 2017, which was won by Ramirez by a narrow 12 round unanimous decision.
It’s key for Ramirez to avoid leaning forward so much, as Hart was able to hit him with a lot of big head-snapping uppercuts last year in their fight on September 22 at the Convention Center, Tucson, Arizona. Hart is in love with uppercuts. That’s his favorite punch by far in his arsenal, and Ramirez is just made for Hart’s uppercuts. Hart didn’t miss an uppercut all night long against Ramirez last year. The only thing that limited Hart’s ability to land his uppercuts was the constant incoming from Ramirez. He threw so many punches that Hart rarely had time enough to load up on his uppercuts.
It seemed like each time Hart was getting ready to throw one of his uppercuts, Ramirez would belt him in the head with a three-punch combination. Ramirez was putting his shots together beautifully. Other fighters could lean from watching Ramirez in how to throw combinations. He’s very good at it. Towards the end of the fight, Ramirez wore Hart down with his nonstop punching. Hart was both tired and just beaten up from the many shots that he was getting hit with by Ramirez. If Ramirez fights like that again this Friday, it’ll be hard for Hart to be able to stay in there for the full 12 rounds without getting knocked out. Ramirez isn’t the biggest puncher, but he makes up for it by throwing so many shots.
The scores were 115-112, 114-113 and 115-112. Hard, 29, was knocked down in round 2, but he came back to hurt Ramirez on a couple of occasions with big uppercuts to the head. Ramirez was able to outwork Hart, and beat him with a high volume punch attack. Hart possessed the superior punching power, but Ramirez never let up with his constant incoming. Ramirez couldn’t match Hart in terms of his punching power, but he did a great job of beating him by throwing many more punches.
Since his famous victory in the autumn against GGG Golovkin, Canelo has quite literally upped his game by increasing his weight to 76kg so he can fight in the super middleweight category. Waiting for him is the current WBA champion Rocky Fielding who won’t want to give away his hard-earned belt. Mexican Canelo is a major threat to Fielding as he already has a history of moving weight categories and winning. His 50-1-2 and 34 KOs record sets him in great stead against Rocky’s 27-1 with 15 KOs.
Rocky Fielding, at 31, is senior to 28-year-old Canelo but has worked his way up by fighting the toughest of boxers. The Liverpudlian has only lost once and that was back in August 2015. Since then Fielding has had a career defining fight against Tyron Zeuge, which he won to get the WBA super middleweight title.
This should make for a spectacular fight and you can catch it all streamed to anywhere you are. Read on to get the ultimate guide on how to watch a Canelo vs Fielding live stream – you can even watch for FREE in the US.
